Rapid UTI Diagnostics
Near-patient molecular UTI testing
Six common uropathogens identified from a 10 µL urine sample, in 35 minutes.
Current Practice
The result usually arrives after the decision
Laboratory urine culture takes 24 to 48 hours for a provisional result and 48 to 72 hours for a full report with antibiotic susceptibilities. In pre-operative pathways this could mean receiving a positive result immediately before the day of planned surgery, leading to cancellation. In outpatient clinics, the antibiotic has usually been chosen and started before the report arrives.
Before culture begins, the sample has to reach the laboratory. In one UK series, urine samples were tested a mean of 31 hours after collection.

Lodestar DX
A pathogen result inside the appointment
The Lodestar UTI testing system is a UKCA-marked molecular analyser for near-patient settings for the identification of common uropathogens. From a 10 µL urine sample, the device identifies one or more of six target pathogens in 35 minutes — informing the prescribing decision before the patient receives treatment.
It is used alongside laboratory urine culture, not in place of it. Culture remains the reference standard and the route to antibiotic susceptibility testing.

Settings
Where Lodestar DX is used
Pre-operative assessment
A pathogen result at the point of pre-operative urology screening, informing targeted antibiotic selection where bacteriuria is present.

Outpatient and specialist clinics
A result within the appointment, so the prescribing decision can be informed before the patient leaves.
Microbiology laboratories
Used alongside laboratory urine culture, which remains the reference standard and the route to susceptibility testing.

A pathogen result before the procedure.
