Point-of-Care Molecular UTI Testing

A point-of-care molecular analyser for urinary tract infections.

35 minutes

from sample to answer

Most UTI antibiotics are prescribed before the pathogen is known.

  • Laboratory urine culture takes 48–72 hours. Antibiotic decisions are typically made empirically before results arrive.

  • Pre-operative bacteriuria can delay or cancel urological procedures.

  • Empirical prescribing limits antimicrobial stewardship.

Pathogen identification, in 35 minutes.

The Lodestar UTI testing system is a UKCA-marked point-of-care molecular analyser for the identification of common uropathogens. From a 10 µL urine sample, the device identifies one or more of six target pathogens in 35 minutes — informing the prescribing decision before the patient receives treatment.

Rapid rule-out before urological procedures.

Asymptomatic bacteriuria before urological surgery currently relies on either empirical treatment or a culture wait that delays the procedure. The Lodestar UTI testing system delivers a 35-minute pathogen result at the point of pre-operative urology screening — informing targeted antibiotic selection where bacteriuria is present, and reducing the number of cancelled procedures.
